My workshops are held at three beautiful private houses in Bramley, Surrey, Chadlington, near Oxford and a new venue in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, all belonging to close friends. At Chadlington and Bramley we work in tranquil, light-filled garden rooms, around a big table. At Robertsbridge, I only run small group, hand embroidery workshops, but the atmosphere of Jenny’s large, historically important house, is absolutely delightful and we get to have our lunch and afternoon tea in her pretty, adoining cafe. At all of my workshops there is time for me to work with each person individually and a relaxed, creative atmosphere. I believe that having access to a good selection of materials, whether it be vintage fabrics, precious antique papers or haberdashery, is an important part of the workshop, and I like to share my collection of materials generously because I know from experience that they can be the starting point for an unexpected and individual creative journey.
I was a late starter, not picking up a needle to embroider until my late thirties. So I am very keen to encourage others to pick up their needle and start, and I also like to design workshops, such as my Wildflower Meadow workshop, which offer people of all levels the chance to stitch together.
The £135 workshop fee includes all materials, morning coffee, a light two course lunch and afternoon tea to follow. All workshops start with morning coffee at 10.15am and finish with afternoon tea at 4.30pm. We aim to make the day a relaxing and spoiling experience. New workshops are added regularly, and usually fill up quite quickly. All workshops planned for the winter months are subject to the caveat that in the case of extreme weather, they will be rearranged for a future, mutually convenient date.
