Some customers know that I have been on a mission to clear the decks in my workroom, gradually selling off fabrics I have collected over the past twenty-five years. They are all so familiar to me, having been used for appliqué work for commercial clients, or in pieces I made in the early days. For several years now, I have only used paint and thread, and so have been enjoying — when time permits — creating these ‘inspiration boxes’: gatherings of fabrics, buttons, scraps of patchwork or ribbon, in the hope that they will in turn provide inspiration for someone else. I can remember so clearly how inspiring it was when I first started when a dealer would send me a bag of fabric or lace ‘sight unseen’ and how the act of going through them would suggest creative ideas.

No two boxes are the same, and there are only a very limited number — the task of emptying my plastic crates of fabrics is almost complete. This box contains some of my favourite pieces for making folk art  pictures with appliqué.
