Textile artist and illustrator Janine Pope is well-known for her quilt patterns and quirky watercolour illustrations featuring Gemma and her remarkable dog, Tiffin. Wherever Janine goes, she watches the world around her and sketches are translated into witty pieces of textile art. In Malmo and Copenhagen, two cities divided by a fifteen-kilometre bridge across water, she sketched people on their bicycles for a wonderful quilt, the pattern for which is available from Janine iof you send her a DM at @pope.janine on Instagram.  Janine designed this tandem for me, and I decided that this couple get their pea-green ‘bicycle made for two’ out of the garage on the first truly fine day of spring each year. They dress up in their very best cycling gear (no Lycra) and set out, sometimes with a picnic, sometimes with their little spaniel who loves the feel of the wind in his ears, but always leaving room in the baskets for their first trip of the year to their favourite garden centre.

This is not a difficult stitch, but neither is it a quick one. There is scope for your own creativity in what you decide to put in the baskets, and in the Fairisle jumper, making it a wonderful kit for people who have done a few kits and enjoy branching out a bit. Please note that there are drawings for suggested basket contents, but no instructions or particular threads apart from those for the plants.

The actual size fits comfortably into an A5 frame.
